Don't forget to look down when you are walking on the boardwalk! All along the way, there are many ferns and small aquatic plants thriving in the swamp.

 

 

 

The constant moisture and shade are ideal for fern growth. Many different species can be found along the trail.

The Resurrection fern growing on this cypress tree is amazing. When there is sufficient moisture, it appears green and healthy. In times of drought, it shrivels up and appears dead and brown. When the rains return, it comes back to life and looks green again!

 

 

Lichens are made up of 2 or more organism growing in symbiosis. It can be a fungus with algae or cyanobacteria.
