Rhinoceros Iguana

Common Name: Rhinoceros Iguana
Scientific Name: Cyclura cornuta

This Iguana was photographed at
L ion Country Safari in an exhibit.
This native of Hispaniola is an Endangered Species.
They can also be found locally in Haiti
and Dominican Republic.
They live in arid and rocky environments.
Many found in Florida are imported pets.

It gets its name from the raised scales in front
of the eyes which look like "horns" of a rhinoceros.
Males, like the one pictured,
have swollen jowls on the neck and
two enlarged areas at the back of the skull.
This one was about 4ft long.
